A Talented Bunch
We have a talented bunch of people here at Global Upholstery Solutions and that is a legacy of our owners.
We are part of the Stannah Group of Companies from where we derive our core values and, as a company, all our team were delighted to hear in June that our two Chairmen, Alan and Brian Stannah have been awarded MBE’s for their service to industry.
Brian and Alan have been awarded MBEs as Stannah celebrates its 150th year in business as manufacturer and supplier of lifting products. The brothers have worked together for 54 years, not only turning around the fortunes of the ailing business in the 1960s, but transforming Stannah into a household name.
The Joint Chairmen have committed their professional lives to excellence and innovation in British engineering and manufacturing, with every single Stannah stairlift chair and carriage designed and manufactured at the company’s headquarters in Andover and our part of the business supplies all the upholstery and carpet for every single one of them.
Commenting on the news, Brian and Alan Stannah said: “We are deeply humbled to be the recipients of such an honour. A steadfast commitment to innovation, quality and customer service has been the guiding principles of our family business and are as relevant today as they were when we joined the business. Our hard working and loyal colleagues have been integral to upholding these values over the years, and to them we are truly grateful.”
Jon Stannah, managing director of Stannah and Brian’s son, added: “Stannah this year celebrates its landmark 150th year thanks to the entrepreneurialism and dedication of our Joint Chairmen, Brian and Alan. Their MBEs are richly deserved and we are tremendously proud of their incredible achievements, both today and over the course of their 50 plus years with the business.”
For our part, we have a number of less prestigious, but still important awards. As part of our continuing focus on the safety and welfare of our team, we have added two additional First-Aiders in Aldona Drabic (Sewing) and Iain Brown (Team Leader – Materials Processing).
Iain also completed his Counterbalance Forklift license this month and we had the excellent news that not only had he passed (which we all expected of course) but that he had achieved 100% in the test.
Finally, Steph Judge, our Sales and Business Development Manager completed her NVQ Level 3 in Business Administration. The feedback from the trainer, Chris Tudor of Training Alternatives said that Steph had managed to complete the qualification in less time than normal, even while having a baby in the middle.
Chris said, “Steph is the best candidate I’ve had in 30 years of training. What she’s done is amazing.”
